WordPress migration and website redesign for a photographers studio

Organic Headshots is a photography studio in Chicago known for their warmth and friendly pose coaching style that helps even people who don’t enjoy being photographed feel comfortable in front of the camera.

They came to us three years ago to migrate their website from WordPress to Squarespace. While the project was underway, their website was hacked. Under a more urgent timeline, we successfully migrated the website's content while preserving the domain's existing search visibility and SEO value.

With the new website’s optimized setup, their blog expanded its reach and gained more traffic. However, when we reconnected with them, we realized that the increased traffic hadn’t resulted in significant changes in business outcomes. Not because the traffic wasn’t valuable, but because a website’s effectiveness depends on many factors beyond traffic.

There were changes both internally and externally that had made the existing website less effective:

• The business had changed. Their service offerings had expanded, making the old navigation structure insufficient for helping visitors find the right services.

• The market had changed. More competition, shorter attention spans, new technology tools emerged, and increased pressure to produce at a lower cost.

Instead of immediately diving into design changes, we identified problems, prioritized opportunities, and proposed strategies to support steadier sales—not just increase website traffic and conversion.

The website redesign is currently being rolled out gradually to minimize disruption to the business.

This project reinforced something we’ve seen in many businesses: growth doesn’t always come from doing more of what has worked before. Sometimes, moving ahead requires recognizing what has changed, adapting systems, and proactively creating new paths for growth.
